Ok.. So I went to do my usual work in some of my groups.. I noticed someone who'd submitted a note query about joining our group rather then going through the "join group" section.  The note said that he'd just bought a Wacom tablet and he wanted to become a Concept artist. He wanted to join our group so that he could work with professionals and get critiques.. I realized he'd gone to the wrong section but figured I'd be polite and let him know that our group doesn't really do critiques and we don't accept "beginning" Digital artists we tend to go for the ones who have already started working at it. So I politely pointed him to another group and suggested that he apply again when he met the criteria for the group.

Next thing I know I get a nastygram, informing me that I'm a "hack" with "zero talent" because instead of drawing I do photo-manipulations that I could "take my group and sod off".  I just sort of sat there for a few seconds. Took a few deep breaths and decided "not worth it".  So I took the time to look at his art.  He is a new member of DA, had more photographs on his site then drawings.  His drawings were beginning style and needed some work but it's not my place to make that call.  Instead I did the diligent count and checked to see if the work looked Conceptual as per the rules for the group.  He obviously didn't read the rules to join the group as he didn't have the requisite number of art pieces in the right category nor did he apply to the group properly..

Still, I decided to be fair. So I told him that he had obviously failed to read the rules to the group. That had he read them he would have realized that there is a "join group" button that would have let us know that he was wanting to be admitted. I then pointed out that he didn't have the right amount of pieces in the right category to be juried into the group and that his unprofessional behavior wouldn't be welcome.

So that begs the question fellow Deviants.. How many of you have run into similar attitudes here?  These people who come to your groups begging you for your help, then insulting you and being nasty when you try to politely tell them that they aren't ready for your group or that your group isn't the right one for them?

Hi dear! Unfortunately these people are everywhere, and especially on the net where they can troll around and be anonymous. I tell you as I tell everyone else, don't let them get to you, they are probably just venting because they have a miserable real life. Fighting with their spouse or their boss or getting a parking ticket or just generally having a shitty day. That's no excuse, I know, but that's just how certain people are. I just try to let it wash off me when I encounter them.:iconsomeredhearts:
